Founded in 1898, Mary Immaculate College is an autonomous university-level College of Education and the Liberal Arts. The city campus, which is easily accessible, now has a student population of over 3,500 students, enrolled on a wide range of programmes in Education and the Liberal Arts, at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. MIC is characterised by a warm welcome for new students, from Ireland and from overseas, excellence in teaching, learning and research, and a friendly rapport between staff and students.

Mary Immaculate College has also expanded its geographical footprint with the incorporation of St. Patrick’s College, Thurles, which currently offers four degree programmes that prepare students to become second-level teachers.

The College is situated in the southern suburbs of Limerick City, the third largest city in the Republic with a population of over 80,000. It is within ten minutes walking distance of the city centre, providing easy access to all cultural and social amenities, as well as the main rail and bus terminals.
In 2014 Limerick was designated Ireland's first ‘National City of Culture’ and is currently preparing a bid for European City of Culture 2020. The city offers a variety of historical, artistic and theatrical activities. There is a lively pub music scene catering for all musical tastes, from traditional Irish music to pop, rock or jazz. The magnificent Lime Tree Theatre, in the College's TARA building, hosts a range of performances from national and international theatre, dance, opera and ballet companies, to live musical and comedy performances.
Limerick was founded as a Viking fortress in the 10th Century. Those interested in history can visit Limerick's oldest building still in daily use, the beautiful 11th Century St Mary's Cathedral, explore the 13th Century King John's Castle in the heart of Limerick's medieval district, or trace Frank McCourt's footsteps on an Angela's Ashes walking tour.
Limerick is the sporting capital of the Munster region and is unique in having a strong tradition and success in both Gaelic games and rugby. Fans can tour the spectacular Thomond Park stadium, which includes an interactive museum that showcases the proud history and heritage of Munster rugby.
With three institutions of higher education and a combined student population of almost 20,000, Limerick is a bustling, vibrant and exciting city. There are cinemas, nightclubs and a range of bars and restaurants to enjoy with friends. Limerick provides students with plenty of opportunities for a great social life.

The two most important parts of becoming an MIC student are enrolment and registration. Enrolment takes place during orientation and registration will take place the first week of the semester.
