The University of Economics and Culture (UEC)

The UEC is located in Riga, Lomonosova Str. 1, building 5 – the street is named after the great scientist whose activity combined creative, academic, and professional traditions. The building, where the UEC is located today, was built in 1909. Now the building is fully renovated and its technical equipment fully conforms to standards of higher education institutions of Europe.

According to the Lisbon Convention on the Recognition of Qualifications concerning Higher Education, Diploma issued by the UEC is recognised in all the EU countries and other countries of the world. The academic staff includes both local and foreign lecturers.

The UEC offers modern study environment – real and virtual lecture rooms, modern library where you can find large variety of books and periodicals, audio materials, video materials, electronic data basis, and informative Internet resources in Russian, English, German and other languages.

Some facts and dates:

The University College of Economics and Culture was founded on July 23, 1998.
On February 8, 2001, the UEC received Accreditation Sheet of the University College of Economics and Culture (No. 017). On November 16, 2006, the UEC was granted permanent accreditation.
67% of the UEC academic staff are lecturers with Doctor Degree.
The UEC has concluded ERASMUS cooperation agreements with higher educational institutions in France, Italy, Lithuania, Poland, Macedonia, the Netherlands, Slovenia, Spain, Turkey, Germany, and Hungary. Every year the list of the University College of Economics and Culture partners is expanded with new partners. Every year students and lecturers participate in exchange programmes.
The UEC is a member of the Baltic University Programme that unites 160 universities in 14 countries of the Baltic Sea region.
In 2013, the University hosted the first Fulbright programme scholar. The programme is financed by the US State Department.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Fall Semester

The study process begins on October 1st.
Admission lasts until 29th of September.

Spring Semester

The study process begins on February 1st.
Admission lasts until 28th of January.

While your documents are in the process obtaining a residence permit-you can start distance studies!
To start you need only an Internet connection - you can watch lectures in our classrooms in Riga at any convenient time for you.
And when the documents will be finalized and you will arrive to Riga - you will be able to join the group, without worrying that you passed some important study information.

6 steps for international students admission

Step 1

You have to send following documents to admission commission email international@eka.edu.lv :

Signed and scanned Application form ;
A copy of passport;
If an enrolee has changed name or surname, it is required to provide a copy of the document confirming change of name or surname;
Notarized copy of general secondary education diploma + transcript of records – for enrolees entering Bachelor study programs;
Notarized copy of higher education diploma + transcript of records – for enrolees entering Master study programs.
Documents shall be provided in one of the following languages: Latvian, English, French, Russian and German. If original documents are in other languages than mentioned above, documents shall be translated into English and notarized.

Step 2

Within 3 days you will receive registration fee invoice for 200 EUR for documents processing. Registration fee includes document processing, organisation of Diploma recognition by Academic Information Centre of Latvia (www.aic.lv – necessary procedure to start studies in any of Latvia’s higher education institutions), settling the invitation and consultation when preparing documents to receive residence permit in EU country.

You have to send following documents to admission commission email international@eka.edu.lv:

Hotel booking form (scanned version with signature).
Scanned copy of payment order of Registration fee (200EUR)
In case you have problems with Diploma recognition, visa, or residence permit or you cannot start studies at the UEC, registration fee is not refundable

Step 3

The UEC sends your education documents to Academic Information Centre of Latvia www.aic.lv (the process can take up to 4 months).

After academic recognition of foreign qualification from www.aic.lv, the UEC sends an enrolee a written confirmation of being accepted to enter studies, Study Agreement, and the first study year tuition fee invoice.

When making a payment, please indicate your name, surname and payment aim.

You have to send following documents to admission commission email international@eka.edu.lv:

Scanned version of signed agreement between you and the UEC
Scanned copy of payment order for the first study year tuition fee in the UEC.
Inform us in written in which Embassy of Latvia you submit documents for residence permit.

Step 4

The UEC prepares invitation for you to start residence permit receipt procedure. The UEC sends you by post following documents:

An invitation
Study Agreement original signed by the UEC.
A copy of note confirming academic recognition of foreign qualification (AIC)
A rent agreement and house-owner guarantee (if you do not know where to live, we can offer you
student hostel reservation. In this case, we will send you all the documents confirming this kind of stay).
A copy of the UEC accreditation documents and study programs.

Step 5

Document processing for residence permit

Please visit www.pmlp.gov.lv/en/home/services/residence-permits/
Please prepare in advance documents specified here: www.pmlp.gov.lv/en/home/services/residence-permits/doc2/studies2.html
Attention! All documents shall be notarized accordingly. More information: www.mfa.gov.lv/en/consular-information/document-legalisation
Add documents sent by the UEC to your documents and contact that Embassy of Latvia where the invitation had been sent.

Step 6

Congratulations! You have successfully undergone the procedure of receiving residence permit and received positive answer.

After arriving to Riga you have to visit the Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs to receive permit, order ID card. www.pmlp.gov.lv/en/home/services/residence-permits/procedure-of-registration-of-the-residence-permit.html

By the moment you receive ID card you have to prepare:

Original note of fluorography or X-ray examination results
Health insurance policy (for full residence permit period, minimal limit 43000 EUR, including repatriation, coverage territory: Latvia and Schengen area)
