POSTGARDUATE STUDIES

POSTGRADUATE STUDIES – NEW MAJORS

The Academy of Hotel Management and Catering Industry in Poznan invites to one-year extramural postgraduate studies within the confines of the following majors:

  • Dietetics
  • Animator and culture manager
  • Modern hotel facility management
  • Modern management in catering industry
  • Sports events and buildings management
  • Spa and wellness organizing in hotel management


Courses are directed to graduates of the I cycle – Bachelor of Science studies and engineer studies as well as II cycle – Master of Science studies.

The graduates receive:

  • A certificate of postgraduate studies graduation in conformity with requirements of the Minister of Science and Higher Education – a Directive of the Minister of Science and Higher Education of 19th December 2008 concerning kinds of professional titles conferred on study graduates as well as diploma and certificate patterns issued by universities
  • A diploma of postgraduate studies completion in the Academy of Hotel Management and Catering Industry in one of the following languages: English, German, French, Spanish, Russian


 Teaching methods:

  • Classes, case study, workshops, catering exhibitions, discussion panels, lectures
  • E-materials provided by lecturers
  • Classes are conducted twice a month – on Saturdays and Sundays
  • Dates of classes and timetables are provided two weeks before classes begin


To complete studies students have to: attend classes, pass all examinations and get all credits, prepare and defend a project

Organization of studies

The Academy of Hotel Management and Catering Industry in Poznan offers students:

  • A three-year Bachelor of Science course
  • A two-year supplementary Master of Science course
  • A one-year postgraduate course


I and II cycle studies in Tourism and Recreation within the confines of three majors:

  • Hotel Management and Catering Industry
  • Tourism Service
  • Management and Marketing in Hotels, Restaurants, Tourism and Recreation
  • Physical Recreation


The above standards are in conformity with directives on the model of higher education and targets of Bologna Declaration included in the Law No. 120/2004 of 21st October 2004.

The Academy conducts full-time and extramural courses. The organization of the academic year and the timetable of classes are presented to students during the inauguration of the academic year. Students of full-time and extramural courses are obliged to complete a minimum 15-week student’s training period.

  • Full-time courses – classes are conducted on weekdays from 8.00
  • Extramural courses – classes are conducted on Saturdays and Sundays from 8.00



FOREIGN LANGUAGES

The Academy places particular emphasis on the role of foreign language.

Our foreign language teachers are highly qualified specialists.

All the foreign language teaching staff accentuates the importance of teaching and improving practical skills.  The classes are conducted in groups of 12 with the use of modern language teaching methods, audio and video materials and computers. Students of all majors have obligatory classes in foreign languages. The education programme requires the following classes to be conducted:
 
I  CYCLE STUDIES

  • A full- time course


Students attend compulsory classes in three languages and a sign language.
In the Hotel Management and Catering Industry major these are:

  • English, and German or French.


In other majors:

  • English and German


Students choose their third compulsory language themselves from among:

  • Spanish
  • Russian
  • Italian
  • French
  • German


An extramural course

Students  attend compulsory classes in English.
There is a possibility to study other languages providing that  a group of 15 is formed.

II CYCLE STUDIES

In both full-time and extramural courses English studying is compulsory. There is a possibility to study other languages providing that  a group of 15 is formed.

Classes in foreign languages are conducted at three levels depending on the command of the language. For those especially interested in learning foreign languages the Academy offers classes where you may learn Arabic, Greek, Chinese, Finnish, Japanese, Portuguese, Swedish, or Hungarian. Moreover, understanding the necessity to communicate with customers who have hearing difficulties, the Academy has added sign language classes to the list of compulsory subjects in the first two years of studies. The level of linguistic competence gained in our Academy is valued highly by all employers and makes it easier for our graduates to find an attractive job.

The Academy of Hotel Management and Catering Industry maintains contacts with similar schools abroad. We are a member of these worldwide organizations:

  • International Association of Hotel Schools, Brugge  [ EUHOFA ]
  • Council of Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Education,Washington [ CHRIE ]
  • European Council of Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Education, Athens [EuroCHRIE]
  • Asociacion de Restauradores Gastronomicos de las Americas [ Aregala ]
  • World Association of Cooks Societies [ WACS ]
  • Institute International de l’ Hotellerie, de la Restauration et du Turisme a Lausanne
  • Furthermore, the Academy of Hotel Management and Catering Industry in Poznań cooperates with the following colleges from  the United States:

  • Pennsylvania State University w University Park
  • University of Delaware w Newark
  • University of Huston w Huston
  • University of Massachusetts w Amherst

International contacts include also numerous trips. Students have taken part in exhibitions and culinary competitions in Spain, Peru, Mexico, Ecuador, Arabian Emirates and Cuba.

Due to the membership of AEHT (European Association of Hotel and Tourism Schools, Luxemburg) the Academy takes active part in international conferences and meetings organized by the Association. Every year the AEHT nominates one of the schools-AEHT members as an organizer of the event whose purpose is to present various nations’ culture and traditions concerning Christmas. In December 2001 and 2009 the Academy was given the honour of organizing Christmas Eve 2001 (Noel European 2001) and Christmas Eve 2009 (Noel European 2009).

  • the entry fee
  • the school-leaving examination certificate (original or a copy)
  • the secondary school certificate (a photocopy)
  • 3 present colourful photos (35x45mm) with a visible three-quarter profile (according to requirements concerning ID photos)
  • a photocopy of Your ID
  • the application and contract to be filled in and signed on spot
  • a shortened copy of a marriage certificate (in case of the name change)
  • a copy of a disability certificate (if applicable)


SECOND CYCLE STUDIES (MASTER’S DEGREE)

  • the entry fee
  • the school-leaving examination certificate (original or a copy)
  • a photocopy of the Bachelor’s degree diploma
  • 3 present colourful photos (35x45mm) with a visible three-quarter profile (according to requirements concerning ID photos)
  • a photocopy of Your ID
  • the application and contract to be filled in and signed on spot
  • a shortened copy of a marriage certificate (in case of the name change)
  • a copy of a disability certificate (if applicable)


POSTGRADUATE STUDIES

  • the entry fee
  • the application form (to be downloaded from the website www.wshig.pl)
  • a Bachelor’s, engineer or Master’s degree diploma or its photocopy with the “apostille” or legalization
  • 2 passport-size photos (with your full name on them)
  • a photocopy of Your ID


Students of the Hotel Management and Catering Industry major, and all these who want to do work placement, are obliged to take a carrying test.

On its basis a doctor of labor medicine will issue a certificate for people working in food production and trade. This certificate should be submitted at the beginning of the academic year or before the training period in case of zero training.
