Long exposure to the sun results are: numerous pigmentation changes, thickening of the stratum corneum, photoaging of the epidermis, and risk of skin cancer as well. So how should you prepare for the summer season to fully enjoy the sun's rays without damaging your skin?
Dorota Sołdacka, a cosmetologist and lecturer at the Gdansk College of Health, talks about the dangers and principles of safe exposure to the sun.
Sun and skin have a huge impact on the skin. to be honest there is good side of sunbathing:
Unfortunately, we can find more harmful effects of sunbathing:
Principles of healthy tanning
Filter creams should be used all year round. In summer apply high SPF 30-50 but in the fall-winter months you can lower the protection up to 15-20.
It is very important to tan wisely. The most important rule is to use a cream with a minimum SPF 30 filter for about 30 min. before going out into the sun. The application should be repeated every 2, 3 hours, and after each water bath. It is also important to be in the sun in safe hours (before 11.00 and after 15.00) and to wear appropriate headgear. Solar radiation also penetrates through the glass, so when we are in the car or work right next to the glass, it is also important to use sunblock. The preparation should protect the skin against both UVA and UVB radiation - this information should be placed on the packaging of the sun cream. You should also remember to take special care of children's skin by using special creams for childern. Photoprotection after cosmetology is a very important element, especially after peels and laser therapy. And in the summer, when the temperature is high, the overriding aspect is providing the body with the right amount of fluid.
What to do after sunbathing?
After tanning skin is irritated and sometimes red, so remember to regenerate it properly. Nutritional balms that contain: vitamins, hyaluronic acid, and plant extracts - this ingredients are perfect for this role. After moisturizing the skin, you can use brightening balms that emphasize the tan.
