Starting university is an exciting time, especially if you're in a different country. We will give you help and advice so that your journey here is as simple as possible.

International Welcome Week

We will send you your pre-arrival information once you have a place at Newcastle. This includes an invitation to our International Welcome in late September.

We also have special events and services for international students. This is to make sure that you settle into life in Newcastle, including:

• information sessions about being a new student at Newcastle
• social activities to help you make new friends
• Our Meet and Greet Service from Newcastle International Airport

Accommodation

We can guarantee accommodation to all international students for one year subject to certain conditions.

Newcastle is a small city with a big personality.

International students living in Newcastle enjoy the mix of:

• city life - shopping, music, restaurants and more
• being near the beach - just 25 minutes away by Metro
• stunning countryside - wonderful countryside and various World Heritage sites are all on your doorstep

Newcastle is an affordable city for students to live in, compared to other UK cities. One in six people in Newcastle is a student.

Approximate living costs, excluding tuition fees and return fares, are:

undergraduates – allow approximately £8,600 for a 9-month period (£956 per month)

postgraduates – allow approximately £10,500 for a 12-month period (£875 per month)

Newcastle is a budget-friendly city for international students. This is because:

• accommodation is reasonably priced
• many amenities are within walking distance of your accommodation
• the city is very compact, with most of the shops, theatres, cafes and restaurants a few minutes' walk from the campus
• there are many discounts for students

You will be well supported by us, we want to make sure that you have the best experience possible.

We’re experienced in answering questions from international students. We will also assist you before you leave your country and when you live in Newcastle. On campus you can visit our student support teams every weekday. We also have 24 hour support through our website.

English will be the main language you use socially and for study.

If you don't meet our English language requirements extra support is available. You could also complete a course to help improve your English before you start your degree. We provide these at our:

• INTO Newcastle if you will be studying in Newcastle
• London campus if you will be studying in London

If you haven't studied with INTO Newcastle, you will take a short English Language test when you arrive. This is to identify if you need any extra study support.

We also have free English lessons throughout the year, including classes in:

• academic writing
• listening and speaking
• presentation skills
• pronunciation and grammar

Our Language Resource Centre is open to anyone who wants to learn or improve a language. It has:

• newspapers, books and other resources in over 50 languages
• 24 satellite channels in 17 languages
• over 800 foreign language films
