Academy of Special Education (ASE) has got one of the longest traditions among all Polish Universities of Pedagogy. At the time of gaining the independence by Poland, our patron - Maria Grzegorzewska came back to the country in order to take an active part in forming new state as well as solving the educational social problems.
In 1922, the State Institute of Special Pedagogy was created from the combination of the State Phonetic Institute and the State Seminarium of Special Pedagogy, directed by Maria Grzegorzewska.
Education of teachers and students who will be prepared for work with disabled people has been always combined with social needs and an educational system which functions in our country well as well as conduces the realization of tasks connected to the European Union community. Even now, the field of studies is more than Special and Teaching Pedagogy. Our aim is to shape high Pedagogical culture level, openness to children, youth and an adults issues, friendliness attitude and readiness for communication with others. Respect for pedagogical traditions is combined with the need of shaping the innovative attitudes, especially in these areas in which our graduates will be working in the future.
The faculty of Pedagogy offers 3 courses. Studying at special pedadogy course prepares for teaching and taking care of people with sight problems (Pedagogy of Blind), hear (Pedagogy of deaf), speech (speech therapy), Intelectual disability, physical disability as well as people with people who have problems with society functioning (Social Rehabilitation).
We also offer the specialization called: The Capacity Pedagogy with IT, these studies allow our students to work either in kindergarden, school and the Pedagogical and Educational Institutions. Students also have a possibility to educate themselves in field of pedagogy, gaining the knowledge and skills, necessary to support families, cultural and educational activities in local environment, adults education, consulting as well as developing the pupils ability to be creative.
Students of Artistic education within Visual arts develop their artistic skills as well as prepare to work in educational and therapeutic institutions – organizing the therapy withing art and therapy.
The Faculty of Social Applied Sciences offers studies at specializations: sociology, psychology and social work. These courses are also connected to the tradition of sensiteveness for the Human Being Needs who is in difficult situation.
Social Work Students gain the competences, necessary for an effective support of elderly, ill and disabled people. Students of Sociology learn the Idea of activity against the social exclusion and the Students of Psychology can concentrate on the Health promotion, Diagnosis and clinical psychology.
Our students can also realize part of their studies at International Universities, applying the Erasmus Scholarships. Apart from that, Students didactic activity is shown in voluntary work, academic sport centre as well as rich offer of Student Government.
Academy of Special Education (ASE) is a school suitable also for disabled students, who have comfortable conditions for studying here, gain support from our employers (The office for Disabled Students) and the possibility of moving easily. Moreover, students receive support while job seeking.
Student programs
Our didactic offer is enriched by the opportunity to study abroad for 1 or 2 semesters within the framework of European Erasmus Programme- students can go to Norway, Sweden, Germany, Belgium, Denmark, England, Italy, Portugal as well as Turkey and Hungary.

The system of public transport in Warsaw consists of bus lines, tram lines, underground line, and SKM (Urban Fast Train) of total range of over 1000 km. Tickets with a magnetic strip and a Warsaw Travel Card entitle to travelling with the public communication.
The registration can be made only on-line. Documents will be accepted by the Department Recruitment Commission after the Ranking List Announcement.

Candidates for studies in Academic Year 2010/2011 will receive individual Bank Acount Number, where the recruitment fee should be transferred.
